About The Book

The Foundation Course is a cumpulsory paper at the first and second year level in the faculty of Arts, Science and Commerce as well as in other related courses such as BMS, B.Com., BAF, BBI, BFM, BIM, etc. The course was introduced more than 2 decades ago for many reasons. One of the major objectives for introducing this course was to make the students aware of the various socio-economic issues that are important for our society and which directly or indirectly influence us. The foundation course also contain topics which are relevant for increasing our self-understanding and our psychological development. The subject of foundation course also deals with increasing one's social and self-awareness that collectively develops our personality.

This revised course which has come into effect from the academic year 2016-2017 in the verious courses is based on semester pattern and each semester has been divided into various units. An overview of Indian society, concept of disparity and various issues associated with it, Indian Constitution and significant aspect of the political processes have been discussed with examples. Question paper pattern for each semester and standard of passing as per University Circular has been reproduced here separately along with the syllabus.

About The Author

Dr. Vipan B. Kumar is associated with R.D. National College, Bandra, Mumbai as the Reader and Head of the Department of Psychology and is an internationally recognised scholar. He holds a Postgraduate as well as a Doctorate Degree from University of Mumbai in Clinical Psychology. He also has a degree in Law and done his Ph.D. in the area of Personality Disorder and has considerable experience in the area of teaching, training and consultancy. His areas of interest include: Borderline Personality Disorder, Anger Disorders, Suicide, Sexuality, Cognitive Therapy, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, Mental Health Policy, and Happiness. He has written more than a dozen research papers and co-authored more than 30 books, some of which are prescribed as textbooks. He was awarded Summer Fellowship in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy in the year 2002 by Albert Ellis Institute, New York, USA and was trained under Albert Ellis and Janet Wolfe. He has also undergone training under Marsha Linehan in Dialectal Behaviour .

He has been a visiting faculty at Jai Hind College, MMK College, Patkar College, St. Andrew`s College, Mumbai as well as State Institute ofAdmini strative Careers of Government of Maharashtra.   

He is an active member of Family Planning Association of India and Council of Sex Education and Parenthood International (CSEPI). He has won awards for his research work at National Conferences of Sexology in 2002 (held in Chennai), 2003 (held in New Delhi), 2005 (held in Hyderabad), and 2007 (held in Nagpur). He has also presented papers in international conferences, especially those related to reproductive health, global warming and happiness economics.
