About The Book

Govind Ballabh Pant was a great freedom fighter, an important political leader from Uttar Pradesh and a forerunner in the movement to establish Hindi as the national language of India. He began his career, as a lawyer in Kashipur (now in Uttarakhand). In 1921, he entered politics and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the United Provinces. He was arrested and imprisoned for several times. In 1935, Pant joined the new Legislative Council, as a member. After independence in 1947, Pant became Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Among his achievement in that position, was the abolition of the zamindari system. He was called to join as Union Home Minister, after Patel`s death. In 1957, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna.
