The present text is a result of hard work and team effort of all the co-authors, who are highly experienced both academically, administratively and clinically with considerable field experience in private and government organisations as well as multinational companies/institutions.

“Human Skills” is a desired trait and a learned behaviour. The study of Human Skill as an academic subject is only of recent origin. A good leader and an effective manager is not only an expert in the area of Human Skills but also know how to hone such skills among his/her employees, followers and subordinates

Human Skill is one of the single most important factor that can play an important role in not only successfully carrying out a particular project with effectiveness but can also play an important role in creating goodwill and better human relations at workplace which today is considerably changing and becoming globalised.

The study of human skills embraces not only the fields of psychology, management, sociology, social sciences but also requires sound knowledge of human physiology, one’s socio-cultural setup and a political economic environment in which one works. The academic discpline of Human Skill is multidiciplinary in nature and is sensitive to cross-cultural perspective.

About The Author

Dr. Vipan B. Kumar is associated with R.D. National College, Bandra, Mumbai as the Reader and Head of the Department of Psychology and is an internationally recognised scholar. He holds a Postgraduate as well as a Doctorate Degree from University of Mumbai in Clinical Psychology. He also has a degree in Law and done his Ph.D. in the area of Personality Disorder and has considerable experience in the area of teaching, training and consultancy. His areas of interest include: Borderline Personality Disorder, Anger Disorders, Suicide, Sexuality, Cognitive Therapy, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, Mental Health Policy, and Happiness. He has written more than a dozen research papers and co-authored more than 30 books, some of which are prescribed as textbooks. He was awarded Summer Fellowship in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy in the year 2002 by Albert Ellis Institute, New York, USA and was trained under Albert Ellis and Janet Wolfe. He has also undergone training under Marsha Linehan in Dialectal Behaviour .

He has also taught students of Engineering and Medical faculties as well as those appearing for IAS exams. He has been a visiting faculty at Jai Hind College, MMK College, Patkar College, St. Andrew`s College, Mumbai as well as State Institute ofAdmini strative Careers of Government of Maharashtra.   

He is an active member of Family Planning Association of India and Council of Sex Education and Parenthood International (CSEPI). He has won awards for his research work at National Conferences of Sexology in 2002 (held in Chennai), 2003 (held in New Delhi), 2005 (held in Hyderabad), and 2007 (held in Nagpur). He has also presented papers in international conferences, especially those related to reproductive health, global warming and happiness economics.

Dr. Santosh R. Jadhav is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology at Government of Maharashtra`s Ismail Yusuf College, Mumbai. Currently he is a Principal of the same college. He was also the Principal of Vikas College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Vikhroli, Mumbai. He is a doctorate in Social Psychology and has vast experience in teaching, research and publications. He is also a member of board of studies of Forensic Science. He also holds the rank of Major in NCC with which he has been associated for more than 25 years He has delivered several lectures on Human Psychology as a guest lecturer in the police department as well as in various NGOs.  He is an expert in the area of Human Skill and Social Behaviour of Human Beings.

Dr. Pratibha Kumar is Assistant Professor at Government Mahakoshal Autonomous Arts and Commerce College, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, since last two decades and has more than a dozen publications to her credit, few of them in international journals. She has considerable administrative experience and has delivered lectures to management and postgraduate students and teachers on various aspects of Human Skills. She specialises in the area of Non-verbal Communication.

Dr. Mamta S. Kakade has done her post graduation in School Psychology and her doctorate in Psychotherapy and Counseling. After acquiring considerable experience of working in the Corporate world for many years for organizations such as UPS Jet Airways, Tata AIG General Insurance Ltd and HDFC Bank Ltd, she moved to academics and then to Clinical Practice and Consultancy Work. At present she is in Private Practice and Consultancy work. She is also a Visiting Consultant at Larsen & Toubro Mental Health Center, Mumbai and few other organizations including schools. She is an excellent speaker and is a strong advocate of inclusive education.
