About The Book

This book is the result of the author's pilgrimage to 108 temples of Karnataka, grouped into sections as shrines of Ganesha, Shiva, Vishnu, Mother Goddess and Others. Profusely illustrated with photographs captured by the author at the sites, it traces their origin, history, architectural significance and the fascinating legends behind them. Written in a lucid style, this book will be of immense use to the pilgrims of Karnataka and other states of India, as well as to the discerning tourists from abroad, to understand our temples and their glory in proper perspective. "Though a large number of Indian and foreign tourists flock to these temples, the visitor often finds that he can get little information on the history and architecture of the site. Against this background, the present work assumes special significance. The author has succeeded in capturing the richness of the temple architecture and also the beauty of the skies and the earth on which the temple sits. According to the old proverb, the fool wanders, the wise man travels. The author has travelled wisely and saw the things to be seen and observed. This book will be welcomed by a large number of visitors and devotees of the sacred temples not only as a sourcebook for information on the sites of their visit, but also to learn about the cultural background of the region".
