About The Book

The main purpose of this study is to examine existing pattern and extent of utilisation of mass media in two selected village i.e., Gangapur, a progressive village and Khandivav, a backward village of Nadiad taluka, Kheda district of Gujarat State. To examine the impact of communication, on agrarian economy, out of the total ten taluka of Kheda district, Nadiad Taluka was selected for the study, because of high media exposure, well developed infrastructural facilites, with agriculture and dairying as important economic activities. This particular taluka has one of the first TV transmitters in rural areas.
In the present study an attempt is made to examine the impact of mass media like newspapers, radio and television on agrarian economy in improving social and economic life of village people. It covers the areas of information through newspaper, radio and television to identify whether the existing media need to communicative improvement for enhancing agriculture productivity.
It is in this background, a study of role of communication in agrarian economic development, as contained in this book, is a great value.

About The Author

Dr. Harshada Rathod, Principal, Maniben Nanavati Women`s College, Vile Parle (W), Mumbai 400 056, hardly in service for a year and a half, has shown her mettle. She obtained her Master`s degree in Economics from S.N.D.T. University in 1979, M.Phil. in 1990 and later on awarded Ph.D. degree in 1997 from the same University. The author has an inpechable records, she possesses a vast experience of both classroom teaching and field in the discipline of Economics.     

The author has good number of publications in her credit, such as more than 20 regional and national conference papers, about 5 international papers, 5 books, more than 70 articles etc. She is honoured with many enviable awards such as, National Scholarship in 1978-79, at National Essay Contest won thrice sponsored by Good Parents Group, USA in 1992, 1994 and 1998 and ANARDE - Young Women Outstanding Performance Award in 1999. She was invited to present a paper at an International Conference on "The Role of Women in Science and Technology in Third World." at the Western Australian University, Perth. She has been a regular invited guest at several colleges in Mumbai and Gujarat. She has more than 15 years of experience in the field of extension activities. She is a recognised guide for the Ph.D. students in the subject of Economics.
