About The Author

Dr. Shyam Singh, Ex-Deputy Director, Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, is presently working as a Professor in Chemistry at the Azad Institute of Engineering & Technology, and Coordinator at the Azad Institute of Pharmacy & Research, Lucknow. Earlier, after obtaining his Ph.D. in stereochemistry and spectroscopy from the University of London in 1972, he has held senior positions as scientist at the Raman Research Institute, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, and visiting scientist at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Oklahoma City, USA, and University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA.

After a brilliant academic record, Dr. Shyam Singh entered into a specialized research career focused on the chemistry and biology of human plasma lipoproteins, coronary heart diseases, and use of synthetic and spectroscopic techniques. At the Central Drug Research Institute, he has headed the divisions of Biopolymers and Physiology, and supervised several M.D. (Medicine), D.M. (Cardiology), and Ph.D. these on a variety of subjects. He has been a consultant, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics departments of the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences, Tirupati.

Dr. Shyam Singh is a member of several professional bodies and has made valuable contributions to popularization of science and technology. His research has been always funded by national funding agencies; ICMR, DST and DBT. He has more than eighty publications; majority of them is published in international journals, and the work is widely cited.
