Present book, entitled ‘Electromagnetics’, has been written according to the unified syllabus for B.Sc (II) Physics – Paper II students of various universiteis of Uttar Pradesh. The prescribed syllabus, mainly describing electrostatics, magnetism and electromagnetic theory has been divided into four units. Unit I deals with the principles of electrostatics and magneostatics which we have presented in the form of three chapters of the book. In Unit II, phenomenon of electromagnetic induction and the relevant matter is discussed into two chapters. Unit III presents the topics of dielectrics and magnetic properties of matter into two separate chapters. In unit IV, electromagnetic waves and their reflection and refraction have been described in the two last chapters of the book.
The main content of the matter was earlier developed by the author in his book 'University Physics-I' Part-II – Electricity, Magnetism and Electromagnetic Theory, published by Himalaya Publishing House in 2007. In the present book, the changes and additional topics in the syllabus with relevant discussions have been incorporated in sufficient details.
In order to grasp the basic concepts of physics and to understand the complicacy of the subject matter, we have given a good number of selected and informative solved and unsolved problems in the book. Generally the solved problems have been given in few group at different places with the relevant theory inside a chapter and each group of problems have been followed by an exercise (set of unsolved problems) for practice.
