About The Book

The present text book entitled “Physicochemical Principle in Pharmaceutics” deals with the physical and chemical properties of the drugs and recipients which must be understood thoroughly in order to put it into a suitable dosage form. It also includes the stability of the drug product, its Solubility, Dissolution, Diffusion, Kinetics, Complexation and Protein binding. Polymer’s, Polymer's particularly those of high molecular weight are used in the development of new devices that deliver drugs to the body at preprogrammed rates and these have been included in the present book. Theology, Micromeritics, Thermodynamics, States of matter, Surface active agents. Interfacial Phenomenon, Colloids, Suspension and Emulsion have also been included.

This book is divided into fourteen chapters and we have envisaged to include not only the recently change semester wise syllabus of Physical Pharmacy for undergraduate students of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University but also the syllabus of Physical Pharmacy of all the prominent universities of India. Each chapter is explained with diagrams and graphical illustrations wherever necessary, with special emphasis on application in pharmacy and medicine. It is worthy to note that equation when properly described are very effective in representing physicochemical theories and these have been included in the text along with solved and unsolved problems for better understanding of the subject.

This book will be very useful to undergraduate and postgraduate students of pharmacy courses and also to Ph.D. research scholars. This book, in the chapter of interfacial phenomenon, also includes in detail the literature survey, theory, measurements and applications of Zeta potential in Pharmacy and Medicine which will be very useful to research scholars, interested in this facinating subject.

Dr. (Mrs.) Jasmine G. Avari is an M.Pharm. in Pharmaceutics and Ph.D. from Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, R.T.M. Nagpur University and is currently working as Professor and Section In-charge, Pharmaceutics division. She has 30 years of teaching and research experience.

She presented a research paper entitled "Electrokinetic Potential of Human Erythrocytes to Detect Ovulotion" at the British Pharmaceutical Congress, Keele University, England in 1989.

A paper entitled "Abortions and Electrokinetic Potential of Human. Erythrocytes " was also presented by her at the Pharmacy World Congress at Washington, USA, in 3 991. She successfully completed a research project sanctioned by A.I.C.T.E., New Delhi on 15th Dec., 2011 under the Research Promotion Scheme entitled "Studies in Zeta Potential of Erythrocytes in Women with Sexually Transmitted Disease and Development of New Combination Formulation for their Treatment." The total cost of the project was ? 16,37,6007-.

She was elected as a member of the Management Council in 2010 for a period of 5 years. During the same duration, she was also a member of the Research and Recognition Committee. She was a Senate member from the year 2000 to 2005. She was re-elected as a Senate member in 2010 for 5 years. She was a member of Board of Studies and was the acting HOD from 1st December 2011 to 31 st January 2012.

The author has guided 92 M.Pharm. and 10 Ph.D. students. At present, there are 4 M.Pharm, and 6 Ph.D. students working under her. She has 54 research publications; 33 in International and 21 in National Journals; to her credit. She attended many national and international conferences, seminars and workshops. She presented a total of 17 papers as an author and 125 papers as a co-author in many conferences. She has been teaching the subject of Physical Pharmacy from the beginning of her teaching profession and it has been her favourite subject.
