About The Book

The book on "HISTORY OF INDIA - II (300 BCE-750 CE)" has been written for the history Honours students (2019-20) of the CBCS courses designed as a common syllabus for all Universities of Odisha. For the convenience of the students, different terminologies are clarified, Summary recaps are given, points and sub-points are highlighted, Model Questions are given and LMR (Last Minutes Revision) is also supplied.

In the first unit of the book, vivid depiction has been made on the expansion of agrarian economy, production relations, urban growth, trade and commerce, social stratification, class, varna, jati, gender. In the following units, discussions were also made Mauryan Empire, Post-Mauryan politics and the Cholas. Focus has also been given on Gupta Age, Agrarian Expansion, Land Grants, Graded Land Rights, Varna, Proliferation of Jatis, and Post-Gupta Politics. The subsequent chapter deals with topics like consolidations of the Brahmanical tradition, Dharma, Varnashram, Buddhism, Jainism, and Mauryan, Gupta art and architecture.

About The Author

Dr. Manas Kumar Das has obtained his M.A. Degree in History and also M.A. in Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. He has qualified UGC NET. He was awarded his Ph.D. on "History of Archaeology in Orissa during the Colonial Period (1803-1947 A.D.)" with the ICHR Fellowship under Utkal University. He has won Prof. Jagannath Pattnaik Memorial "Young Historian Award" from the Odisha History Congress in 2014. He has published two books, five E-learning Study Materials of DDCE, Utkal University and a number of research papers on History and Archaeology of Odisha in different journals and proceedings. Presently, he is working as a Lecturer in the Department of History, D.K. College, Jaleswar, Balsore, Odisha.

Dr. Abhijit Sahoo has obtained his M.A., M. Phil. and Ph.D. Degree in History from Utkal University, Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar (Odisha). He was a Gold Medalist in both B.A. (History Honors) and M.A. (History) from Utkal University. He has long years of teaching experience of both degree and P.G. classes in different colleges like Vikram Deb (Autonomous) College, Jeypore, IGNOU and KISS (KIIT University). He has published three books (History of India - I, Social Formations and Cultural Patterns of the Ancient World, and History of India - II as per Modern CBCS Syllabus, Odisha), a number of research papers on History in different National and International journals and proceedings. Presently, he is working as a Lecturer in the Department of History, Shishu Ananta Mahavidyalaya, Balipatna, Khordha, Odisha.
