About The Book

It is my pleasure to present the book on History of Media to the students of Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Communication, Semester I, University of Mumbai. This book has been written as per the syllabus prescribed by the University with effect from the academic year 2019-20. In the business of communication, a media entrant must know about the past developments of mass media. Print, Electronic and Digital Media – all these forms have evaluated as the time passed. To better understanding of these changes; role of social, political, economical forces in it; how medium has changed time to time; these topics were highlighted in this book. Through this book, timeline of newspaper, film, radio and television has been interpreted in the reference to History of Mass Media. This book is an opportunity for me to do so. The nature, function, meaning and practice of mass media; responsibilities and role of mass media; importance of mass media drivers – all this study is vital for media students, who will be professionals in future. The book discusses the basic history of Newspaper, Films, Radio and Television, and the role of social reformers in mass media.

About The Author

Dr. Mahesh Patil, Ph.D. in Journalism, Masters in Journalism, SET, M.A. (Marathi), NET, SET, DBM, DMM, GDCA, CCC, Basics of Digital Marketing is invited as Ph.D. Viva Examiner and Thesis Examiner and Resource Person at Orientation program, UGC HRDC, University of Mumbai. Currently, he is BoS Member at Sathey College, Nagindas Khandwala College and KBC North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon.

He is Member of Syllabus Revision Committee for various subjects of BMM and BAMMC at University of Mumbai. He is Chairperson, Paper Setter, Moderator and Examiner for various subjects of BMM and BAMMC at University of Mumbai. He is invited as Panelist, Judge and Guest Speaker for various programs at various colleges. He is also Member of Syllabus Revision Committee at North Maharashtra University. He has completed 1 Orientation Program and 2 Refresher courses from UGC HRDC University of Mumbai. He has 19 years of teaching experience at UG and PG level. He is writing Sur Darbaar popular column in leading Marathi Daily Punyanagari since January 2022. He has published research papers for UGC Care List and Peer Reviewed Research journals.

Jayshree S. Godbole, BMM (Advertising), M.A. PR (Public Relations), has experience as a BAMMC faculty. She is teaching subjects like History of Media, Foundation Course II, Corporate Communication and Public Relations, Media Law and Ethics, Agency Management, Advertising and Marketing Research, Legal Environment and Advertising Ethics. She is teaching to PG students for MACJ and MAEMA course. She is teaching subjects like Public Relations in Public and Private Sector, Introduction to Media Research, Ethics Constitution and Media Law. As a media student herself, she believes in the future scope and impact of the various kinds of media.
