Entrepreneurship is an intangible factor and is the moving force of socio-economic problems confronted by the country can be solved by encouraging entrepreneurs. In India entrepreneurship is constantly equated with the establishment and management of small business units. The development of small scale industry, which is the alternative name for entrepreneurship in India, can solve the problems such as concentration of economic power in few hands, regional imbalances and exploitation by monopolists.

Developed and developing countries alike are encouraging entrepreneurship economic growth. Entrepreneurship is the innovative skill of the individual which prompts the person to take up self employment and produce such goods or service which will be innovative and useful to the society. Entrepreneurs do establish their business in a different way and take decisions under uncertainty. They turn opportunities into business ventures. Jobs are created by them and they will be adding new jobs on a large scale to employment market. They also take up community services in the places and locations wherever they run their businesses.

Entrepreneurs have to possess necessary skills to succeed in their businesses. The skills include creative thinking, critical thinking, effective communication financial, marketing, human resources development (HRD) and managerial skills, time management, stress management, ethical attitude and courage and confidence to face challenges. Every entrepreneur will not possess all these skills. But majority of successful entrepreneurs possess certain of these skills. Particularly they possess inventive and innovative skills, courage, good communication, marketing and financial skills. HRD Skills, though they possess, are not adapted. "Profitability" occupies that place. Majority of entrepreneurs of fail within three years of starting the business. Because they do not get required finance at the appropriate time and adapt poor HRD practices.

In order to disseminate knowledge of entrepreneurship, every university of Karnataka offering B.Com., BBA Courses have introduced "entrepreneurship" as one of the subjects of study. "Entrepreneurship skills" as a subject of study in introduced in Third semester B.Com of Bangalore University. The syllabus includes topics on need to become entrepreneur, promoting entrepreneur enterprise setup, monitoring and maintaining an enterprise and Caselet discussion.

About The Author

Prof. H.R. Appannaiah, is an erudite scholar and a prolific writer. He has promoted educational institutions and has a teaching experience of over 50 years, serving in the capacity of professor, principal and the director of postgraduate center. He has widely traveled abroad and has presented many research papers in national and international conferences. He has authored over 90 titles on Commerce and Management subjects, catering to the needs of graduate and postgraduate studies in Commerce and Management. He is a member of Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Karnataka and has served as Chairman of Business Education Committee, besides being the member of International Trade Committee, IT Committee and Tourism Committee. He has founded Federation of Teachers` Councils of Commerce and Management in Karnataka to revamp business education. As a Founder President, he has contributed to give a new turn to business education in Karnataka. At the instance of the Federation, Government of Karnataka appointed a high-powered committee to restructure business education in Karnataka for which he was appointed as a member.

His contribution to commerce and management literature in KANADA (state language) is immeasurable. Glossary of business concepts in Kannada covering over 4,000 concepts on Finance, Marketing, HRM and Accounting authored by him is an academic marvel. This work is acclaimed as a classic literature of its own kind on Commerce and Management in Kannada.

Tumkur University has conferred on Prof. H.R. Appannaiah, Doctor of Letters for his thesis on business education. Considering his contribution to business education, Tumkur University (Karnataka) has honored him by conferring "Honorary Professor of Management".

Dr. Madhu S., hailing from Bengaluru (Karnataka State), had his primary and higher education in Bengaluru. He obtained M.Com. and MBA with Finance as specialization stream from Kuvempu University, Shimoga, Karnataka. He has been awarded Ph.D. Degree in Management from Rayalaseema University. He is specialized in the areas of Information Technology, Business Analytics, Accounting Information System, MIS, Forensic Accounting, RDBMS, Web Designing, Research Methodology, Statistics, SPSS, Advanced Excel, Management, Strategic Management, etc. Along with academic and research experiences, he has more than thirty years of industry and teaching experience. He has authored more than 25 books in Commerce and Management area, 2 edited books and published more than 12 research papers in reputed journals. He is a Resource Person on Information Technology, Research Methodology, SPSS, Advanced Excel, etc. He is also a research and academic consultant. He is also the Member of Board of Studies and Board of Examination in various Universities and Colleges. Presently, he is working as Invited Professor in Department of Studies and Research in Commerce, Tumkur University, The National College, Jayanagar and various other B-Schools in Bengaluru.

Mr. H.A. Bhaskar is a service professional working for Karnataka Beverages Corporation Ltd., Bengaluru. He holds B.Sc. degree and MBA in Materials Management from Indian Institute of Materials Management, besides holding PG Diploma in Materials Management from the same Institute. He has over 25 years of experience and has 16 titles to his credit on Commerce and Management subjects.
