This book is an outcome of research work conducted by the author as a part of his doctoral program under the guidance of Dr. Bal Chansarkar, Senior Professor at Middlesex University, UK and co-guidance of Dr. Bindi Mehta, Chairperson Research and Publications at NMIMS, Mumbai.

The book provides a comprehensive review of opportunities and challenges faced by Telecom Industry during various change phases. It takes you through a journey, which started in 1980s, with the government realizing importance of telecom for economic development, passed through liberalization, privatization, major policy and regulatory changes, restructuring of the department, cut-throat competition, and continues through fast paced and turbulent phase even now. The industry is facing competition not only from new entrants but also from disruptive technologies. The book provides a deep understanding of service Industry in general and telecom industry in specific.

About The Author

Dr. R.M. Chaturvedi belongs to 1982 batch of Indian Telecom Service. He is a graduate in Engineering and Law, and Post Graduate in Management from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies. He has done Post Graduate Diploma in Investment and Market Studies and has completed Ph.D. in Management Studies from NMIMS, Mumbai.

He has completed his Education and Training at Premier Institutions including I.I.T. Madras, HAL Staff College and Indian Institute of Public Administration. He started his career as Management Trainee with Defense PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and has worked with DoT, BSNL and MTNL. Presently he is Dy. Director General at Department of Telecommunication.

He has 25 years of diversified experience in various areas of Telecom Management including projects, planning, operations, logistics and strategic management and has worked in various regions in India.

He is associated for a long period with various Leading Management Institutes including JBIMS, NMIMS and AIAIMS at Mumbai, in advisory positions and as a Visiting Faculty, guest lecturer, and been a part of numerous judging and selection panels. He has published articles and papers in reputed journals.
